Accounting Assistant / Clerk – Richmond – 2-Month Temporary Contract
Our client is seeking an experienced Accounting Assistant / Clerk to join its Accounting team in Richmond for a 2-month temporary contract. This position supports the day-to-day accounting operations of a busy professional environment, with responsibilities spanning accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, billing support, and financial record keeping.
The role focuses primarily on general accounting functions and does not have direct responsibility for trust accounting. Previous experience within a law firm, including exposure to the Trust Accounting Procedures established by the Law Society of British Columbia, is considered a strong asset.
The successful candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced legal environment.
Accounts Payable
- Process vendor invoices accurately and within required timelines.
- Verify coding and approvals in accordance with established policies.
- Prepare and process payments, including cheques and credit card transactions.
- Maintain vendor records and respond to vendor inquiries.
- Reconcile vendor statements and investigate and resolve discrepancies.
Accounts Receivable & Collections
- Record client payments and maintain accurate accounts receivable records.
- Coordinate and prepare deposits and assist with banking transactions.
- Monitor outstanding balances, prepare monthly AR reporting, and assist with collection follow-up as required.
- Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies.
Billing & Matter Support
- Assist lawyers and legal support staff with billing administration.
- Support the Senior Accounting Assistant in responding to internal billing and accounting inquiries.
Accounting Operations
- Assist the Senior Accounting Assistant with reconciling corporate credit card transactions and expense reports.
- Maintain accurate electronic and physical accounting records.
- Prepare monthly reports as required.
- Assist with year-end accounting processes.
Administrative Support
- Organize, scan, and file financial documentation.
- Maintain the confidentiality of financial and client information.
- Assist with special projects and other accounting or administrative responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Completion of a certificate, diploma, or coursework in accounting or bookkeeping, together with a minimum of 2–3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Experience with NetDocuments and Unity Accounting is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and quickly adapt to established processes.
Pay will be $27-$33 per hour.
